A multi-sensory intervention for Neuromotor Impairments

The reason ‘why’

In January of 2024 one of our founders suffered a life-changing Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) which left her quadriplegic. SCIs are one form of Neuromotor Impairment, which all orginate in the brain, spinal cord, or nervous system and adversely affect a person’s ability to control muscle movements. They’re among the most difficult, yet common, conditions to live with

The Superpower of Neuroplasticity

We all have a remarkable ability to undergo positive neurological changes like synaptic reorganization, axonal sprouting, and neurogenesis. It’s called ‘neuroplasticity’ and it can restore or improve lost function, or arrest decline.

NEXR is merging the very best in spatial computing and neurological engineering, with the support and involvement of world-renowned partners, to deliver a multi-sensory intervention which aims to accelerate, increase and enhance patient outcomes in ways never contemplated or possible before now.

In short, we’re turbo-charging the superpower of neuroplasticity!

The ‘who’ of Neuromotor Impairments

Our initial research focus is on those with a Spinal Cord Injury, of which there are over 15 million globally. In addition to their acquired injury, they often suffer high levels of neuropathic pain. Our goal is restoration and recovery of lost function, while also reducing their pain.

Once our intervention is successfully proven we then move on to other injuries/conditions which we believe our solution is wholly applicable to, such as other ‘acquired’ (stroke, traumatic brain injury, etc.) ‘congenital’ (Cerebral Palsy, Spina Bifida, etc. - optimisation and improvement of existing motor patterns), and ‘degenerative’ (Parkinsons, MS, etc. - compensation, adaption and maintaining function in the face of progressive decline).

The ‘how’ of NEXR?

Decades of neuroscience research confirm that the brain and nervous system are not fixed; they possess remarkable nuroplasticity. This is the scientifically established mechanism allowing the neurological system to reorganise itself by forming new neural connections, which is the fundamental process enabling learning and functional recovery after injury.

We’re currently in stealth-mode as we build out our MVD (Minimum Viable Demonstrator) and commence the process of running trials to validate our solution. As such, we’re sure you understand that we can’t go into details, for now, on ‘how’ we’re turbo-charging neuroplasticity. We’re incredibly keen to expedite our work and greatly look forward to sharing more details when it’s appropriate to do so.

NEXR Health is a non-profit - we have no shareholders to answer to, and no big ‘exit plan’ for our future. While we seek commercial success we will always operate with this not-for-profit ethos, re-investing revenues into improving our solution and remaining focused exclusively on achieving the best possible outcomes for those with Neuromotor Impairments.
